Blog #8- H2O

Water. . . Agua. . . Adam's Ale, whatever you want to call it, water is a beautiful source of life. However, not everyone sees the value in it. Many people would prefer juices, sodas, or other sweet drinks instead of "boring" water. As for me, I love water, and I love the way it has affected my body.

For the first five years of my life, with my mom, I didn't drink much water. My mom let us drink juices, milk, and whenever we wanted, but my grandma was different. When my grandma took my siblings and I in, she was very strict with the rules of drinking water. If we wanted soda, we had to drink two water bottles; if we went out to eat, we were allowed to order only water to drink. My grandma had so much rules, but we never argued with it. Over time, she became less strict with the rules, but I still maintain a lot of these habits.

Some of the habits include; carrying a water bottle with me, drinking water before a sugary drink, and ordering water with my drink at restaurants. There was a time when I stopped drinking water so often, but I was able to get back on track with an app that tracks my water intake. It measured my required water intake, a third of my body weight, and set up timers hourly to remind my to drink water. After a while, I pried myself off the app and set up my own timers until I progressed to listening to my body's signs of thirst.

Drinking water has shown to help improve my body. My skin is much more hydrated, my weight has gone down, and I've been sick less often. However, it hasn't fixed everything one hundred percent. Don't get me wrong. my acne has cleared up, but it's not fully gone. I have lost weight, but that was also tied in with exercise. I suffer from severe migraines, and dehydration is one of my trigger- less migraine means less of me feeling sick. Water can't cure everyone's ailments, but it does help people step into a healthy direction.

Many health experts will tell you that water alone cannot make you automatically live a long life, but it does help. In a previous post, I mentioned having to put in the effort to achieve your goals. In this case, you have to meet your body halfway to nourish it because it gives you life. Your body is constantly telling you what it needs, and it's up to you to fulfill those needs. One of those needs includes the hydration of water, so don't ignore it.

  1. Hi Juli!

I am horrible with water! I try my best to drink as much as I can, but I swear I have a diet coke addiction or something. I have been trying my best to increase the amount of water I take in though. I think you did a great job with your story telling here !

  2. Nice detailed post Juli! We should not underestimate the importance of staying hydrated and drinking water. Especially living in Arizona, we have to watch our water intake. I had a problem with not drinking water throughout high school and it caused me a lot of headaches. Anyway, this post was nicely detailed and you used photos amazingly here!

  3. Hi Juli, i really like this post. I feel like not a lot of people understand the importance of water or the benefit's it can have. Growing up, no matter what was wrong with me, my mom would tell me to drink water. I thought she was just trying to get me to leave her alone but for a lot of things, water is the cure. I have made it a habit to only order water when I go out. Since I am already eating bad, i try to just think the water will balance it out.
